Will the real Molly B. please stand up!

In The Oregonian (10/4/94) Bordonaro is described as trying to modify her image as a rightwing hardliner - which the paper suggests may have hurt her in the past.

With two candidates, both of whom have little to offer as a track record, neither having held public office previously, the voters must infer from less tangible evidence. Molly Bordanero may not be in favor of a "constituitional ban on abortion," but is she in favor of choice?

Bordonaro is 30 years old and ran for Congress in 1996 when she was just 28. Her stands included overturning the assault weapons ban, vouchers for private schools, and she was quoted in that campaign as saying she supports overturning Roe v Wade. See the above link to the OregonLive elections page. To say she doesn't really believe these things now, just two years later, is to suggest she is either concealing her true opinions for campaign purposes only, or that she is immature and possibly easily influenced. She may in fact be both.

The question about Molly is, who is she really? The image change, and the denials that she no longer stands for what she stood for in '96, raise the issue of maturity. She is said to be powerfully influenced by her father's opinions as a long-time opponent of government programs.. Are Oregonians ready to send Molly to Congress for on-the-job growing up, under the influence of right wing idealogues in Congress and among the special interest spin doctors and lobbyists on Capitol Hill.
