The Knight is concerned with the expense of building more and more prisons in Oregon. Other public services are being underfunded because of the costs of the mandatory sentencing provisions of Measure 11. Now Kevin Mannix has succeeded in placing a property crimes sentencing measure on the ballot for the November election.
The Knight would like some help in researching Kevin Mannix and his history of voting in the Oregon Legislature and his public statements. Mannix is not listed as a current member of the Oregon Legislature, but we are pretty sure he has been in the past.
Oregon has Lon Mabon and Bill Sizemore and several other extremist conservative activists putting referendum measures before the public without a full public discussion of the consequences. We would like to contribute to such a discussion through our publication: The Don Quixote Society Website.
The Knight is concerned that public funds be spent consistent with public purposes and not as a subsidy for private revenge. Crime victims and other indignant citizens have become organized into a political lobby by prosecuting attorneys, the corrections industry, and corrections workers unions. While some of the purposes of such groups may be in the public interest, the vested interests of the promoters may be more selfish. There appears to be a considerable exploitation of the anger and grief of the actual victims of crime.
