Weekend Edition Saturday is to be congratulated for bringing balance to the NPR coverage of the struggle between the region's Arabs and Jews. This week's story on the inequities of Israeli "democracy" with respect to the 20% of Israelis who are non-Jews is a refreshing departure from the consistent pro-Israeli bias of NPR and virtually every other mass media institution in the US.
The public supports vast US support for Israel (more money than we give any other county) because Israel is portrayed as "the Middle East's only democracy." Your story may help taxpayers rethink their decision.
Even more helpful would be a comprehensive report on the total cost ($78 billion cash ?) to the US for supporting Israel - including our offsetting payments to Egypt and Saudi Arabia etc., and the huge expense of maintaining our massive military force in the region in order to counter the effects of Israel's confiscation of territory and the resulting antagonism between Israel and its Arab neighbors. _____Carl
